Cult of the Zenith Combat Rules
Optional rules to give guidelines to RP combat in the World of Warcraft.
Based heavily off the in-game mechanics, simplified to a ridiculous level.
This system is built for speed of use (roll, then counter-roll), and takes levels and skills into account.
General
In OOC post (party, raid, say or otherwise), link the spell or special attack you are using, or your weapon used for the strike if you're just 'swinging' sans special strikes. Your opponent can take the time now to reply with what special defense or spell they're using, or that they will be dodging, parrying, or blocking.
Spells and Special Attacks
Both you and they do a /roll, using their level as a modifier. A level 50 would write "/roll 51-150". A level 76 would write "/roll 77-176", and so forth. Winner of this roll gets to choose what happened to the attack - was it defended or taken?
Simple Attacks
Both you and they do a /roll, using your weapon skill as the modifier, and they using their defense skill as a modifier. Winner of this roll chooses if the blow lands or misses.
Returning From Death
It's considered that if you are of Acolyte rank in the guild, you have been through the Trials of Faith and Blood (formerly: "The Initiations"). You should have been given a [Blood Shard]
from this; if not, chase Zen for one.
If and when you die "in character", without someone able to (and willing to) rez you IC, that shard may be 'spent' to return you from the grave IC - it is a focus that allows you to draw on his paladiny powers of the light, and is in game effect the exact same as rezzing at your corpse after an OOC run back to your body. Your shard is now 'spent' - please send it in the mail back to Zen.
If you need a replacement [Blood Shard]
, please come seek Zen in character, and have him restore it to you. Be prepared to esplain yasself, or in worst case scenarios, be required to take another Trial of Faith and Blood.
When you come back by using a [Blood Shard]
, you may return from the grave despite factors such as: complete destruction of the body (ie; ooze in Gnomeragan, falling into a pit of lava), greivous injuries (ie; devilsaur snack, decapitated), or irretreivable loss of your body (ie; off the side of Netherstorm, falling onto a ledge 'tween Felwood and Darkshore)
Thanks to the Trials, you are IC immune to all attempts to 'capture of your soul' (ie; Drain Soul warlock spell, certain instance/raid boss abilities).
If you do not have your shard available when you again die IC (ie; return, run, get caught by the guy that stabbed you, killed again), then do not fret - Zen will eventually notice your absence, and send people to find your spirit. A dark ritual or living sacrifice may be required to return you to the world IC, but that's what makes it a lot of fun, right? ^_~
